Legal Fellow

Alex McGrath.

Alex is a Legal Fellow based in Innovation Law Lab’s Portland office. He graduated with a B.A. from Yale College and a J.D. from the University of Michigan. Before law school, he spent a year in London as a researcher for the Rt. Hon. David Lammy MP. During law school, he was a course assistant for Contracts and Constitutional Law.

For his first summer placement, he worked for the Public Advocacy Division of the D.C. Attorney General’s Office splitting his time between the Workers’ Rights and Antitrust enforcement units. For his second summer placement, he worked for the Military Commissions Defense Organization on the capital defense team of Mr. Ammar al Baluchi in United States v. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, et. al. (commonly called the 9/11 Case).

In addition to immigration law, Alex is particularly interested in private and procedural law and anti-positivistic legal theory. In his free time, he likes to travel, hike, and get better at photography. At bottom, he hopes to use law and its processes to bring a recalcitrant society closer to its chosen ideals.
